Usually when we decide to lose weight, our appetite increases, which is a body’s defense mechanism to the coming starvation.

The problem becomes even more severe if you ever tried to lose weight and failed. Even more so, if the diet required you to intake a lot less food than what you were used to.

With that you conditioned your body to constantly attempt to store energy for "the times of starvation".

The thought of a diet alone usually increases a person’s appetite because the body is "afraid" it will have to starve.

According to the Bodynews magazine (May 1. 2006, page 70), Janet Jackson used acupuncture to reduce her food cravings and in combination with exercise lost 35 pounds.

She told the magazine that ever since she had been little, she loved to eat. Now she’s following a strict diet and is resisting the temptation to overeat.

Acupressure is an ancient Chinese technique based on the principles of acupuncture, and involves the use of finger pressure (without the needles) on specific points along your body.

To this day they identified more than 365 acupressure points on the body that, upon stimulation, produce effects on distant parts of the body, including internal organs and hormonal glands.

By stimulating specific combinations of acupressure points, we can predictably influence the perception of pain, appetite, blood circulation, excretion of specific hormones and directly and indirectly even on the feeling of anxiety, will and some behaviors (such as impulsive behaviors and stereotypical behaviors that are a consequence of prolonged stress).

In the last decade even Western medicine is more and more beginning to recognize the effects of acupressure and acupuncture and, based on clinical trials, recommends their use in the treatment of some diseases and conditions.

By applying pressure on certain points on our body we can increase or decrease the activity of internal organs, we can relax muscles, influence the activity of nerve impulses and influence the excretion of hormones.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, by applying pressure on acupressure points, we increase or decrease the flow of energy (Chi) in our body that flows along special energy channels called meridians.

This way we enable the normal flow of energy in our body and release blocked or congested energy centers.

Modern Western medicine, of course, interprets the working of acupressure in a slightly different way. They discovered that the acupressure points are located in special places in the tissue, where the nerve switches occur. By pressing on these points, we can influence distant parts of the body that are innerved by that specific nerve.

Acupressure points have also been found to be located on certain points on blood vessels and on muscles. These points were shown to have increased conductivity compared to the surrounding tissue.

Despite the scientific approach, it sometimes seems… Read more…
